Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that helps clients build psychological flexibility by embracing their thoughts and feelings rather than fighting them. It encourages people to accept what is out of their control and commit to actions that align with their core values. ACT integrates mindfulness techniques to help clients become aware of the present moment and reduce the power of negative thoughts. Clients learn to “defuse” from unhelpful thoughts by seeing them for what they are, not what they dictate. By focusing on personal values and committed action, ACT helps people take meaningful steps toward a fulfilling life, even in the presence of difficulties. This therapy is effective for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and stress.
